WEST YELLOWSTONE- An 18-year-old woman is dead after falling hundreds of feet while hiking in Yellowstone National Park. She was a Yellowstone concession employee on her first day in the park, according to a press release.
The woman was hiking on the North Rim trail above the Yellowstone River Grand Canyon with three other people when she ventured off trail onto a loose rock outcropping, which gave way underneath her.
Yellowstone Park rangers responded to a 9-1-1 call just before 6 p.m. June 7 that a woman had fallen into a canyon.
Rangers spotted the body approximately 400 feet down the canyon wall, and her remains were recovered from the canyon by helicopter Friday.
The victim's identity has not yet been released. Yellowstone National Park reminds visitors to stay on designated trails.
