MISSOULA- A combination of freezing rain and cold pavement is creating extremely difficult driving conditions in Western Montana this morning, with law enforcement handling a score of "slide off" accidents. Some of the worst conditions are on Interstate 90 from Lookout Pass east to Frenchtown, and on the freeway east of Missoula.
MISSOULA- There's a new twist to a disturbing story we told you about on Monday about an accused drunk driver. Missoula Police say that Jana Lorenz was drunk driving with two of her children in her vehicle when she lost control and crashed into a house on Russell Street Sunday night. The incident happened shortly after Lorenz picked up her 6-year-old son from Lil Griz Clubhouse daycare.
MISSOULA- A Missoula man has been charged with felony burglary and theft for breaking into Allied Waste and Recycling and stealing copper. Missoula County prosecutors say in court documents that Kory Piatz entered Allied Waste on West Broadway on January 18th, January 20th and December 21st, where he stole over $1,500 in copper wiring.
WASHINGTON, DC- Montana's Congressional delegation sounded typically partisan notes in their reaction to President Obama's State of the Union addresses, although they all agreed on wanting to see more action to help the economy. As expected, the sharpest criticism came from Republican Congressman Denny Rehberg. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester weren't as critical, however they also didn't offer any resounding endorsements either.
HELENA- Lewis & Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson has confirmed that the 27-year-old Helena man who was involved in a Tuesday afternoon snowmobiling accident has died. The identity of the man has not yet been released, nor has the cause of death.
MISSOULA- There are just 16 games to go in the regular season and the Missoula Maulers find themselves where they've never been before in their five year history, all alone in first place. Part of that success belongs to two players with the same name, who are on the ice at the same time and also play the same position.
Chrissy Kohler's StormTracker Weather Center forecast: The morning will feature valley rain as the temperatures hover in the mid 30s to upper 40s all across the area. But the ground is frozen after several days of below freezing temperatures, so the rain is freezing upon contact with the roads creating sheets of ice and areas of black ice. Roads will be dangerous through the morning hours so please be careful while traveling today. We have a freezing rain advisory in effect until 9 a.m. for the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys because of the hazardous driving conditions.
