KALISPELL - The annual Smith Lake ice fishing derby welcomed over 200 anglers, ranging from one to 80 years old, over the weekend.
The 40-year old event was held west of Kalispell and was sponsored by the Sunriser Lion's Club.
The gathering is considered a service to the community to make a modest amount of money to then donate to family fishing pond programs.
More than a foot of ice on the lake provided a safe event for all participants and about 40 ice fishing shelters dotted the lake surface, reflecting the strong turnout.
Anglers landed pike and perch on jigs tipped with maggots or smelt.
