KALISPELL- The Flathead County Sheriff's Department, the Nordic Ski Patrol and Flathead County Search and Rescue members headed out Thursday morning to resume the search for a missing skier who was swept away in an avalanche in northwest Montana.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says the weather conditions were poor and dangerous on Wednesday night and they couldn't reach the area where the avalanche occurred and had to turn around. Air support has also been grounded due to poor visibility in the area.
Curry tells us the two brothers were skiing in the Jewel Basin area east of Kalispell, on Wednesday afternoon when an avalanche swept into the two skiers. Search and rescue crews are on both sides of the avalanche site, trying to make their way to the scene, but are dealing with tough weather conditions.
A family member we spoke with says the men were on a high ridge skiing and taking pictures when the slide happened. The names of those involved in the incident have not yet been released.
