Schweitzer helps celebrate Flathead business

COLUMBIA FALLS- Governor Brian Schweitzer paid a visit to a new one of a kind facility in Columbia Falls that uses algae and wood to produce energy.

The governor toured Algae AquaCulture Technology, which is located behind Stoltze Lumber, taking part in a special dedication at the Green Power House.

The giant greenhouse uses a natural process with algae that creates electricity, biofuel and rich organic soil fertilizer, and Schweitzer told us the facility is way ahead of its time.

"Well this is a grand opening of better living through science. This is capturing the power of algae. And you know the algae will sorta be using scrap material to produce energy and also soil amendments," he commented.

The algae is fueled by the waste biomass that is left over from the Stoltze Lumber mill.
