EVERGREEN - Major revisions to the Evergreen flood-plain map could impact the insurance rates of landowners in the area.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is months away from revealing the flood map revision for the Evergreen area after gathering information over the past few years.
Flathead Planning Director BJ Grieve, says the new maps will affect 1,000 parcels of land located near the K-mart and that flood insurance rates for properties in the flood plain will go up.
Flathead County is not pushing the flood-plain map revision, but Grieve says they are basically required to comply and that residents in the 100 year flood plain wishing to build on their land would most likely not be allowed to.
When the initial findings are released the public will have the opportunity to comment.Click here for a list of FEMA contacts for Montana Floodplain Management.
