POLSON- A man who Polson Police say is a suspect in an assault case was taken into custody for failing to register as a sex offender.

Polson Assistant Police Chief Clinton Cottle said in a news release that officers responded to first block of Fourth Avenue West in Polson for a reported assault on Tuesday.

Cottle added that during the assault investigation police found out that Fredderick Whitlock, 41, of Polson had a prior conviction in the State of Pennsylvania for a sex offense and that he'd not registered in Montana, as required by law.

Whitlock was later booked into the Lake County jail on charges of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender and Misdemeanor Assault.
