Authorities have identified the Missoula man killed on Interstate 90 Monday evening as 36-year-old Marcus Merritt. The Montana Highway Patrol reports that Merritt was driving west on the I-90 near mile marker 100 when witnesses saw him fishtail before losing control, crossing the median and then rolling across the eastbound lanes. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and officials say that alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The Sanders County Coroner has released the names of the couple who were killed in a head-on crash which happened near Paradise over the weekend. The victims are Rudy Arriaga, 78 and Beverly Smith-Arriaga, 60, both of of Columbia Falls. The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday on Montana Highway 135 at mile marker 18 when their vehicle hit an SUV head-on after Rudy Arriaga swerved off the road and then over-corrected.

Gas prices have seen a drop of 1.7 cents per gallon and are sitting at an average of $2.86, compared to the national average of $2.68 per gallon. Gas prices in the Treasure State are still 13.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are just 0.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago according to MontanaGasPrices.com.

The number of people who will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year alone will reach 42,000, which is also the number of miles one man and his crew are traveling to help raise awareness about the deadly disease. The Road Two a Cure Tour is led by seven-year pancreatic cancer survivor Chris Calaprice, who continues to receive chemotherapy while on the road. Calaprice and his crew are riding through all 50 states to raise money for pancreatic cancer research and spread the message of hope to cancer survivors. The crew is in Missoula for some auto tune-ups and repairs.

A new ad campaign and website were unveiled on Tuesday at St. Vincent Health Care in Billings to address prescription drug abuse in Montana. The advertising uses the phrase "invisible epidemic" to refer to the problem. Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock was on hand for the debut of the ads, and he noted that misuse of prescription drugs is a contributing factor in the deaths of over 300 Montanans every year.

Government agencies are seeking broad new authority to ramp up killings and removals of gray wolves in the Northern Rockies and Great Lakes, despite recent court actions restoring the animal's endangered status across most of the country. Various proposals would gas pups in their dens, surgically sterilize adult wolves and allow "conservation" hunts to drive down the predators' numbers. Once exterminated across most of the West, wolves made a remarkable comeback in recent decades. Yet as packs continue to multiply, their taste for livestock is stoking a backlash.
