A Billings oral surgeon and a former Laurel assistant golf pro, facing federal drug charges for possessing and distributing cocaine, have been released from custody after agreeing to a number of court ordered conditions. Dr. Jerry Mancuso, 42, and 37-year old Darin Marker were released under their own recognizance by federal magistrate Carolyn Ostby. Both defendants are subject to random drug testing, cannot possess drugs, alcohol, or firearms, and are prevented from associating with known felons or any witnesses in the case.

The U.S. Department of Education reports that asthma is the number one cause of school absenteeism among children. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America estimates that the illness sends more children to the hospital than any other childhood disease. Some research also demonstrates that asthma related visits to the emergency room peak 17 days after Labor Day. Medical professionals advise parents watch kids for symptoms.

When the bell rings to mark the start of the school year in the Bitterroot next week, some students will be seeing new faces. Three new principals are taking over at Corvallis and Hamilton schools. Jason Wirt will be running Corvallis High School, Tyson Tucker will be the CHS Vice Principal and Athletic Director while Hamilton Middle School's new Principal is Sharon Anderson who comes over from the Dillon school system.

People are asked to "Get Your Griz On" Friday, September 3rd, which coincides with College Colors Day, an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the spirit and traditions that make the college experience great.

The Rattlesnake Gateway Redevelopment project was officially unveiled on Thursday after a decade's worth of work. The project brought sidewalks to both sides of Greenough Drive from the railroad crossing to the Waterworks Hill trailhead and also includes 15 new curb ramps, bike lanes, new street crossings and new paving.

Fall is almost here, but there is still a little time left to enjoy Glacier National Park and many of its amenities, although many of them do close this month. Several of the park's businesses will be shutting down in September, beginning with high mountain chalets. Granite Park and Sperry Chalet will be closing on September 10th and September 11th for the season.

Missoula's Community Medical Center and Big Dipper Ice Cream staff are helping women pay for breast health expenses.
CMC and Big Dipper are teaming up for the next two month to help uninsured and under-insured women. Big Dipper came out with a special raspberry and white chocolate chip ice cream flavor and starting Tuesday, the proceeds from the flavor will go to the CMC Foundation to help patients with medical expenses for breast cancer.

An earthquake that struck New Zealand caused "a lot of damage," though there are no reports of serious injuries or major damage, an emergency official said. The quake had a magnitude of 7.0, down from an initial assessment of 7.4, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It struck about four miles from Christchurch, a city of about 380,000 people. An aftershock with a magnitude of 5.7 struck not far from the epicenter about 20 minutes later according to the USGS.
