BOZEMAN - The Beer Institute ranks Montana the top beer-drinking state in the nation.
According to the latest annual report from the institute, in 2008 the average Montanan over 21 drank 43.5 gallons of beer. Coming in at number 2 was New Hampshire, putting down 42.9 gallons per person. Last on the list with 23.2 gallons was New York.
From 2003 to 2006, Montana ranked #4, and in 2008 jumped up to #2, before claiming the top spot in 2008.Beer Institute officials say 2009 figures should be available early next week.
