Missoula man arrested after 30-mile police chase

MISSOULA- A Missoula man led law enforcement on a 30-mile long "high speed pursuit" through Bonner and East Missoula over the weekend night.

Sergeant Robert Kennedy with the Missoula County Sheriff's Office says deputies attempted to pull over a car for suspected drunk driving on Montana Highway 200 near Marshall Mountain around midnight Saturday.

The driver failed to pull over and that's when the pursuit started and the man led deputies down Highway 200 into Bonner. The suspect turned off his headlights and hid out in the residential area of Bonner.

Once he was found, he drove northbound on Highway 200, then southbound where he entered Interstate 90. The driver pulled off at the East Missoula exit and hit several cars, finally coming to a stop on Highway 200 and Staple Street.

The suspect, 39-year-old James Richards, was arrested and faces several charges alluding a peace officer, aggravated DUI, criminal endangerment, driving while suspended and several other minor traffic violations.
