MISSOULA - Open burning season has officially come to a close in Missoula County with fire officials also bumping up the area's fire danger to "moderate".

MCFPA President Frank Maradeo says that while open burning has been closed until further notice, the public can still have camp fires, but he's urging that folks use extra care because of continued dry conditions.

Montana currently is experiencing the most number of fires and most acreage burned in the nation which means that some firefighting resources are being stretched as large areas east of the Continental Divide continue to burn.

The largest blaze burning in the Treasure State is the Ash Creek Fire in southeast Montana which had burned nearly 250,000 acres as of Wednesday morning.
