MISSOULA- More and more Montana cities have been instituting cell phone bans while driving and now a Missoula city councilman wants the city council to discuss banning cell phones in Missoula.

Councilman Dave Strohmaier will ask the committee if they have any interest in revisiting restrictions on using cell phones while driving at Wednesday's Public Safety and Health Committee,

Missoula municipal code currently prohibits texting while driving, but has no restrictions on talking on a cell phone while driving.

Other Montana cities including Whitefish and Bozeman, have instituted laws against cell phones.

Strohmaier says this committee discussion is an opportunity to gauge the council's interest level in revisiting the topic and strengthening the current ordinance.

The meeting is Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Missoula City Council Chambers at 140 West Pine Street.Contact Melissa Rafferty
