MISSOULA - The city is getting close to adopting a workable document on managing its public lands. On Monday, the Missoula city council held a public hearing on the proposed plan.

City conservation lands manager Morgan Valliant presented his outline for conserving Missoula's open lands to council before the floor opened up for public comment. Two people spoke in favor of the new plan.

Currently a few pieces of Missoula's undeveloped public lands have management plans, but Valliant said the new document will allow for managing the system as a whole in a way that pleases the entire community.

"Missoula as a whole is gonna benefit," he said. "These are lands that Missoulians really do care about, care about a lot. And I think we've made a lot of progress in the last five years and this is really the icing on the cake and what is gonna move us forward and help us just manage these lands as best we can with the resources that we have."

City council sent the draft back to committee for some word adjustments, but Valliant said he is confident city council will approve it. The council decided to put the plan back on the agenda for approval in the next coming weeks.
