CHARLO- The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is looking for public comment on a proposal that's designed to improve the safety of five curves on about 7.1 miles of Secondary Highway 212 near Charlo.

The project would begin just west of Dublin Gulch Road and continue to just east of the intersection of Dellwo Road.

Transportation officials are looking at flattening the slopes on the road, widening the shoulders, adding rumble strips and upgrading pavement marking, signage and guardrails in the area.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2015 and MDT officials say in a news release that they would need new right-of-way and the moving of utilities in the area.

MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land and will also again contact landowners prior to construction about property acquisition and temporary construction permits.

Contact Missoula District Administrator Ed Toavs at (406) 523.5802 or Project Design Engineer David Holien at (406) 444.7824 for more information.

Written comments on the proposal may be sent to the Montana Department of Transportation Missoula office at PO Box 7039, Missoula MT 59807-7039, or online, noting comments are for project CN 7516000.
