Irina Cates joined the KPAX news team in the summer of 2005. Started working for the morning show, Montana This Morning, while she worked on her broadcast degree at The University of Montana.
Irina was hired on as a full-time, general assignment reporter in February of 2008. She focuses on the crime beat, working with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and the courts to get the stories impacting our communities.
She graduated from UM in the fall of 2007 with a B.A. degree in Broadcast Journalism. Shortly after graduation, she went back to school and now has an M.S. degree in Administration of Justice and Security from The University of Phoenix.
Irina grew up in the small town of Charlo, MT. She decided to get into journalism, because she developed a passion for writing and taking pictures when she was in junior high.
She enjoys her job as a reporter, because it allows her to meet people from different backgrounds and to be able to experience what many people never have the chance to do.
