MISSOULA - Hundreds of people gathered at the track to take part in the return of para-mutuel horse racing at the Western Montana Fair last week.
.
The man who runs the event, Eric Spector says, the outpouring from the Missoula community has been overwhelming.
The group Montana Downs has been working for months with the Montana Board of Horse Racing and the Governor in order to get the event scheduled.
Spector said that if you happened to notice a lot of local jockeys and horses last week that's because there are, but there are also many out-of-staters chasing the money.
"They are chasing the purse moneys, we have competitive purse moneys, and the horseman know where the moneys are and like to capture it. If they are racing against this Intermountain Region it's like friends following friends, it's a good time, and a good track, and they know it," Spector, the President of Montana Entertainment, told us.
Spector added that they were blessed with good weather and the support of the county commissioners, so they look forward to working with the county again in the future.
