MISSOULA - The weekend weather may have slowed down Saturday's Griz game, but it certainly hasn't slowed down business for local campsites.
AAA is estimating a 10% increase in the number of Americans traveling this holiday weekend as compared to last year at this time.
AAA Agents are also reporting an increase in the number of travelers making advanced reservations, and Missoula camp sites are no exception this Labor Day weekend.
KOA Kampground staff members say they've been very busy this weekend with all of the holiday travelers coming through. They expect the entire site to be nearly full by Monday morning.
Many vacationers passed up on hotels this weekend and headed to campgrounds instead to celebrate the holiday.
"This is a normal thing for us. We camp a few times a year," said camper David Haemer. "We hope to get a couple more in, but for the most part, we're winding down the summer."
"We decided to camp because we haven't taken the camper out much this summer and we thought the weather would be good this weekend and it's kind of a nice place for us to relax away from the rest of the city," said camper Ward Fong.
AAA says the increase in travel for Labor Day is the result of economic improvement over the past year.
