GARRISON JUNCTION- Fire officials are continuing to make good progress fighting a wildfire which broke out last week in the Garnet Mountains.
The eight acre blaze, which is burning in Powell County is now 80% contained as Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and the Forest Service fire crews work 14-hour shifts to extinguish the fire.
DNRC Fire Prevention Coordinator Cindy Super says about 50 personnel are still cutting a fire line around the fire and the the progress is slow because of the difficult terrain in beetle-killed timber.
The blaze was detected Thursday evening and Super says it was probably burning for a couple of days before it was found. Super says the fire was possibly sparked by lightning.
