KALISPELL- It's not flu season yet but it is that time of year to start thinking of getting your flu vaccination and Montana typically won't until January or February.

Health providers are saying now is the time to get immunized against the flu. Children and senior citizens are especially encouraged to receive a flu vaccine because they're more susceptible to contracting the illness. Caregivers to infants are also encouraged to get the vaccine.

Community health services Director Jody White spoke out against myths concerning the vaccine.

"The flu vaccine does not cause influenza. You cannot get disease from the flu vaccine. You may have a day or two where you're arm might be sore. Or you might feel some slight fatigue or just a general feeling of malaise or not feeling well but you cannot get influenza from the flu vaccine."

Many health care providers will have the flu vaccine available. At the county health department it is $25 and there are programs for children who are uninsured or under insured.
