Flu clinics coming to the Flathead

KALISPELL- The start of flu season in Montana is just around the corner and Flathead health officials are announcing a series of clinics to help ward off influenza this year.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months of age and older with the Flathead City-County Health Department is issuing a reminder that the best way to protect against influenza.

"For decades we have understood the importance of immunizing people over 65 but our younger population is also at high risk from the complications of influenza," Community Health Services Director Jody White said. "Children can also transmit influenza to other vulnerable populations."

The Flathead City-County Health Department will not be holding its annual flu clinic at the fairgrounds this year, but vaccinations will be available daily at the health department on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Wednesday's from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Flu clinics are slated for Tuesday, October 18th at the Veteran's Home in Columbia Falls from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Golden Agers Senior Center in Whitefish, and on Thursday, October 20th in Bigfork at Bethany Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until Noon.

Flu vaccine is available for individuals 6 months of age and older. Medicare, Medicaid and Healthy Montana Kids Insurances are accepted. Call (406) 751.8110 for more information.
