Flathead Co. Health improving patient record access

KALISPELL - A federal grant will help one Kalispell medical facility provide better care for its patients, and easier access to their own health records.

The Montana Primary Care Association was awarded nearly $500,000 to improve health information technology at various state health centers, including the Flathead County Health Center. The facility offers medical and dental care to patients who couldn't otherwise afford it.

The grant will support an electronic data exchange for Health Share Montana, and improve the use of electronic health records, which will be more convenient for patients during each visit, said Flathead Community Health Center Executive Director Wendy Doely.

She said right now, they're activating a site that will let patients access their medical information from their own computer.

"They'll view their lab results and contact their physician, look at their bill, pay their bill online, and have really open access to their health information," she said.

Doely and other health center leaders will meet next week to talk more about the grant.
