KALISPELL - Flathead County commissioners have approved a $81 million budget for the next fiscal year, and increase of about 2% in expenditures from 2013.
The new budget means property taxes are going up, so county taxpayers will see an increase of about 2%.
Finance Director Sandy Carlson tells us the majority of the budget increase comes from a 3.5% cost of living increase for county employees.
She added that the county typically finishes out the year under budget.
"I think they've been pretty good, they're very conservative. We've kept a pretty healthy balance and now we're projecting about a 25% cash balance."
The extra funds tide the county over during the months they aren't collecting property taxes.
