KALISPELL - The Flathead County Animal Shelter is reaching a critical limit for the number of cats and kittens they can hold and they need your help.
Fall is typically a bad time for both the Animal Shelter and the Humane Society. The weather is getting colder, and cats that have either been stray or outdoor cats are being brought into the shelter by the bunches.
The shelter has reached its maximum capacity and their staff is overwhelmed. Flathead County Animal Shelter Director Cliff Bennett says if you are thinking about a cat or kitten, now is the time.
"We can hold about 45 cats comfortably at the Animal Shelter here, up to 50. And right now we're up to about 75. So we've got some cats doubled up, and of course everybody who takes care of the cats is having to work twice as hard as normal and we'd like to get cats into people's homes. That's what we do for a living is adopt out animals here."
Bennett says due to the overcrowding they are adopting cats out right now for half of the typical fee, which is now $22. Click here to visit the Flathead County Animal Shelter website.
