Firefighter injured in downtown Missoula blaze

MISSOULA- One firefighter was injured battling a fire that broke out in downtown Missoula on Saturday. Missoula fire officials say the injuries he sustained were minor while fighting the fire at 321 North Higgins Avenue.

The first fire engine responded just before 5 p.m. as smoke poured from the second story of the building and fire officials tell us fire crews encountered heavy smoke and heat in the building.

Missoula Fire Marshall Gordon Hughes is still working to determine the cause of the blaze. Structural damage to the building that houses Yellowstone Photo is estimated at $30,000.

Missoula City Fire Battalion Chief Kip Knapstad said no surrounding buildings were damaged by the fire.

Three engines, one ladder company and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded along with three Missoula Police units and an ambulance from Missoula Emergency Services all responded to the scene.
