WEST GLACIER- Glacier National Park officials say they still aren't sure that the famed Going to the Sun Road will open this weekend after recent heavy snowfall.

Park managers say the exact opening date for the road is still uncertain as plow crews slice through, not only last winter's snow, but additional snow that's fallen in recent storms.

Park spokeswoman Denise Germann tells us that some areas of the road have seen up to 27 inches of new snow in the last two weeks alone. She added that crews are working double-time to try and clear the historic roadway as quickly as possible.

"The crew has been working overtime, extra time to move forward towards that projected date. But I would anticipate, it may be a bit after that. So, I would anticipate probably next week, but we will have a better idea [Tuesday], and I will communicate it at that point," she explained.

Germann says park officials will know more after a thorough assessment of the road takes place.
