CORAM- Spending time outside in national parks and forests is one Montana's most popular pastimes, but it also can be dangerous if you aren't prepared for wildlife encounters.

The Hungry Horse and Glacier View Ranger districts hosted an educational Bear Fair at the Coram Community Center on Saturday to teach people all about bear safety.

Booths, presentations and demonstrations were set up to show people how to prevent coming into contact with a bear, and visitors even had the chance to learn how to properly discharge a can of bear spray toward a "bear target."

The event brought in tourists, and even more local residents, who say you can never be too safe when it comes to learning about bear safety in the Flathead.

"Anyone who goes out and doesn't have the correct information just puts their life in jeopardy-and others. I wanted to learn more about the grizzly bear since I like to hike. This is a lot more informative and you can ask people questions," Whitefish resident Elise Baker said.

Organizers say they hope to host more events like this one in the future.
