KALISPELL- Anyone born after January of 1985 needs to sign up for a free hunter education course before buying a hunting license in Montana.
But course registration is a little different this year, with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials looking to have hunters to register online for the courses, as well as read the education manual and complete each chapter exercise before the first night of class.
Classes are being hosted all around the Flathead Valley and elsewhere next month, and students are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
"I think everyone can benefit. When you think of gun safety and firearms, you're going to encounter firearms at some point in your life whether or not you're a hunter. Whether you're at someone's house or you have children that might get a hold of the firearms-knowing the safe way to handle a firearm is important," FWP's John Fraley explained.
