MISSOULA- This weekend's fourth annual Blackfoot River Challenge lets folks watch or take part in some river races all while helping a good cause. Missoula Food Bank volunteers organize the event each year as a fun community event that also helps to raise donations for the food bank.
Participants in the river challenge pay an entrance fee which goes straight to the Missoula Food Bank which helps the organization as they need donations, as well as more volunteers, during the summer months. The Blackfoot River Challenge starts at 6 p.m. on Friday and events will continue through the weekend.
"It's a very visual, it's a very fun event. Spectators are welcome. You can bring out food and watch the slalom course which is gigantic gates that these paddle sports- canoes and kayaks going through- so it's really visual, it's really fun and engaging," Missoula Food Bank Community Relations Director Jessica Allred.
Allred says the food bank is in need of protein items like tuna fish and peanut butter as well as cereal. She says the food bank is really appreciative of all the community support they receive.
