MISSOULA - There is good news for more than 1,000 animals at a Western Montana sanctuary that ran out of food, at least for now.
AniMeals hurried to the rescue over the weekend, launching a food drive for the animals.
Generous donations helped the organization meet its goal, filling a semi trailer with hay, oats and grain. Plus about $2,200 in cash donations will help pay the expenses for the truck.
"We couldn't have done it," AniMeals founder Karyn Moltzen said. "We just absolutely couldn't have done it. We didn't have the resources, the time, the money. We didn't have anything."
The delivery will reach the animals sometime Wednesday. But it's only enough food to last about a week.
On top of that, it's taking longer to find homes for the large, hoofed animals (mainly llamas. So, AniMeals has another semi trailer on the way and hopes the food and monetary donations will continue coming in until the animals find permanent homes.
If you are interested in housing any of the animals, you can contact AniMeals at (406) 721.4710.
